MEET LAUREN
Hello, I’m Lauren, a self-taught American artist based in Ireland and the founder of Lauren Taylor Creates.
My unique style of painting captures the essence and feel of a place or object without focusing too heavily on the details. Light and atmosphere play a big part in my landscape paintings. One of my favorite things in the world is to be out in nature, set up with my easel and paints and my dog by my side. I find so much inspiration painting on location. It evokes all of your senses and gives you a true sense of color and place.
I believe that art is deeply personal for both the artist and the collector. So often it’s not just the colors or beautiful scenery but the person and reason behind the painting that we resonate with. When I paint I am sharing the way I see the world and a little piece of my soul.
Art has always been a passion of mine and despite studying International Business in college it was something I kept turning back to. I set up Lauren Taylor Creates on Etsy way back in 2011 as a creative outlet. In 2014 I decided to pursue art full-time and set out with my watercolors and a one way ticket to Buenos Aires, Argentina. After traveling all over South America and meeting my now husband in Chile, we settled in Ireland (his home country).
I have absolutely loved living in Ireland. I find immense inspiration here. The landscapes, skies, flora… it’s all featured heavily in my artwork and completely shifted how and what I create.
I’m now based in the charming village of Rostrevor in County Down with my husband, our little boy and dog.
Rostrevor is also the home of my new art gallery and studio, grēne. Grēne is the shared studio space of architect Alina Holyst and myself.
‘Grēne’ meaning a tone of green, an old English word for a hue that holds a very special place for both of us. It reflects our deep-rooted fascination with the landscape and our unique ability to paint or design objects that blend harmoniously with the surroundings. Built in the mid 1800s, this building has had many lives! A grocer, hat maker shop, piggery, paint shop and most recently an estate agent. Now it is an art gallery and architect studio!
I’m so excited to see how this space and my artwork evolves. To have a space where you can come see my artwork in person is a real dream come true. After teaching thousands of students to paint online I’m also excited to offer workshops and events at grēne in the future! We want this to be a creative space to connect and grow a sense of community.
