5,4,3,2,1
Have you heard of the 5-4-3-2-1 technique? Writer Elizabeth Gilbert shared the technique in an Instagram video back at the start of the pandemic and it’s something I adopted and use almost daily! It’s a grounding technique that helps you get out of your head and in the present moment. To begin, look around you, wherever you are and say out loud (or in your head) five things you see, then four things you hear, three things you feel, two things you smell and one thing you taste. I find it such a helpful way to start my morning walk, get out of my head and really truly notice the beauty around me. The way the light hits the frosty branches, the magpies chatting away to each other, the feeling of the ground under my feet and the faint smell of cut grass. If you stop and truly look around, listen and pay attention you notice small things that you would have otherwise missed and end up feeling more centered. I would love to know if you try it!
