The Feeling of Art
I went to the National Gallery in Dublin yesterday. I've been dying for months to see the Women Impressionists exhibit and finally got to see it before it ended.
It made me think back to the first master painting that I saw in person that had a significant impact on me. It was 'The Magpie' by Monet. I was blown away by how much color was in essentially an 'all white' painting. I bought a print from the museum shop because I wanted to remember that feeling.
There's something special about seeing art in person. How much the texture and layers of paint impact form and color. The grandness of seeing the painting in its true size. Yesterday I had my nose right up centimeters away from paintings by Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, and Eva Gonzales soaking in their brushstrokes, color palettes and subjects.
This is one of the reasons I love having my gallery Grēne. I'm so happy to have a place where people can get up close and look at my paintings, see the texture and hopefully walk away feeling a bit moved.
Has there been a painting that is memorable or had a significant impact on you?
