Wild Garlic in the Sun

$495.00
sold out

This lovely little wild garlic scene was painted en plein air in the bluebell woods near where I live.
It’s a place that feels magical.. you just know fairies live amongst the flowers. For me, photos don’t capture just how etherial it feels to be in there. Being able to take my paints in and get the right shade of purple and green and paint how the light dances across the leaves and flowers is the only way to really recreate what it’s like being there.

Each spring, around the same time as the bluebells, the wild garlic pops up. The smell is so strong and lovely. First the leaves come and then these little white flowers - both edible. There’s so much that grows in this area - a real testament of how ancient this woodland is. When I was painting here, a strong light lit up this patch of wild garlic. I tried to capture the bright white flowers and lime green leaves. The rest of the scene, the background and a few stray bluebells are all in shadow and a bit subdue.

Painting in the bluebell wood has become a tradition for me, one I look forward to each year.

I had a very nice man pop his head into my gallery yesterday.. a self proclaimed “horsey man.” He saw my painting ‘Wild Like the Wind’ hanging in the window and said that he wanted to tell me that I captured the horses perfect
